Maison Goyard celebrates its 170th anniversary

In 1853, when François Goyard took over the Maison that would, from then on, bear his name, his vision was deeply influenced by the legacy of the “Compagnons de Rivière”, his log-driving ancestors, who moved firewood downstream from the vast woodlands of the Morvan to supply the ovens and furnaces of Paris.

From the hard-wearing and waterproof fabric the “Compagnons de rivière” would cut their outfits from, one of the inspirations for the emblematic Goyardine canvas, to the marking of the logs in order to differentiate their owners, the foundation for the hand-painted Art of Marquage, this heritage still infuses Maison Goyard today.

170 years later, Maison Goyard takes a heartfelt walk down memory lane to return to its literal and allegorical roots, the very place where it all started: the Forest.

Throughout 2023, an exciting array of exclusive creations honoring this forestial heritage will be unveiled, ranging from variations on Goyard classics adorned with new personalisation motifs, to unprecedented hues of Goyardine canvas.
