Goyard, the oldest Parisian trunk-maker

Officially established in Paris in 1853 by François Goyard, Maison Goyard dates back to the very roots of France’s excellence in craftsmanship. The Maison was originally established in 1792 by Maison Martin who specialized in the bygone trade of finery packing. This trade was succeeded by Maison Morel and later Maison Goyard.

Between 1853 and 1998, five generations of Goyards succeeded one after the other as head of the company: François Goyard (1828-1890), Edmond Goyard (1860-1937), Robert Goyard (1893-1979), François Goyard (1918-2005) and finally Isabelle Goyard, the great-great grand-daughter of the founder.

By carrying on a long-standing tradition of bespoke trunks and luggage that has earned its reputation, Maison Goyard ensures the continuation of an exceptional kind of craftsmanship in all its excellence and refinement. Its trunk workshops, located exclusively in France, are the embodiment of this commitment. There, dedicated craftspeople perpetuate an unparalleled wealth of skills and techniques passed on from one generation to another. Of course, the contemporary Goyard workshops are more spacious and functional than those of the past, but the know-how and passion remain the same.

Each trunk by Goyard is entirely hand-crafted by the same trunk-maker, according to the strictest high standards. When the crafting process is over, each trunk-maker writes down the serial number of the piece on its identification tag, along with their initials. They also write the same serial number in the manufacturing register that keeps track of all items made in the Goyard workshops. The manufacturing register is used as a reference to ensure seamless service in the event an item needs to be repaired.

Each special order by Goyard is born through skills of our artisans with the aspirations of a customer. These unique pieces are the ultimate in exclusivity, as they are especially designed to meet the wishes and requirements of each client.
