THE PALACE TRUNK AND THE STILL TRAVELER

A Christmas tale by Goyard

Once upon a time there was a Palace trunk that couldn’t wait to travel the world.

Ever since the day it came out of the Goyard workshops, it dreamed of distant horizons, but unfortunately, it had been purchased by a very special kind of traveler, a still traveler, one who mostly enjoyed travelling without moving.

Instead of climbing up Mount Fuji or exploring the Machu Pichu, the Palace trunk that couldn’t wait to travel the world spent its days at the feet of a comfortable armchair in a large library filled from floor to ceiling with books telling the tale of intrepid explorers, with the house cat curled up against its side.

Every evening, the still traveler would sit in the comfortable armchair, pick up a book from the shelves, and start reading aloud.

At first, the Palace trunk that couldn’t wait to travel the world would hardly listen, too wrapped up as it was feeling sorry for itself.

Yet, as evenings went by, the magic of the words started to cast its spell.

Hemingway, Conrad, Kipling, Saint-Exupéry… Travelling throughout time and space with them, the Palace trunk that couldn’t wait to travel eventually came to understand that the most wonderful travels had little to do with faraway lands.

Imagination and the ability to wonder is all it takes.

Perfectly content at last, the Palace trunk that couldn’t wait to travel never ever stopped to travel without moving, and lived happily ever after.
