IN PRAISE OF SLOWNESS

IN PRAISE OF SLOWNESS

11-08-2018

For the fourth consecutive year,
Maison Goyard is honored to be a part of The Salon, Art + Design fair.

On this occasion, the Maison will present an exclusive installation on the theme of “In Praise of Slowness” inspired by a famous Haiku by the legendary Japanese poet Kobayashi Issa, who celebrates the virtue of taking things slow, and the great achievements this approach to life can bring.

Ever since its establishment in 1853, the artisans of Maison Goyard have cultivated the art of taking time. The time it takes to perfect the ancestral techniques and methods carefully passed on from one generation of trunk makers to the next. The time it takes to craft the perfect trunk, one that will be cherished as a beloved heirloom.

A playful, oneiric and poetic metaphor for slowness epitomizing indulgence as the ultimate luxury, the “In Praise of Slowness” installation reveals a most unlikely star, a snail pulling a net of Goyard trunks, a nod to the Goyard family history – as they herald from Burgundy, a region renowned for its vineyards and gastronomie, and in particular the notorious Les escargots de Bourgogne, a delicacy consisting of land snails cooked in garlic butter.
