GOYARD AT THE SALON

GOYARD AT THE SALON

11-10-2016

For the second year in a row, Goyard is pleased to be part of The Salon, Art + Design fair in New York.

On this occasion, the Maison presents an exclusive exhibition showcasing two outstanding pieces: the extraordinary "writing trunk" commissioned by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1925, and a re-edition of an exceptional Chiffonier set originally designed and crafted for the Paris International Exhibition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in 1925 as well.

Both pieces illustrate Goyard’s historic penchant and flair for creative and technical challenges, and highlight in particular its “moving furniture” vein: how to transcend a seemingly strictly “static” piece of furniture, such as a chest of drawers or a writing desk, into a perfectly elegant and functional trunk ready to follow its owner everywhere.

The Chiffonier Set is presented in its full format: the “home” version, complete with an Art Deco style macassar ebony structure, and the trunk version. The Writing Desk Trunk features a folding table, a bookcase, a timekeeper, a typewriter and various storage spaces where the man who penned the Sherlock Holmes detective stories kept documents and manuscripts.
